Primary duties: Reporting to the Library Director, the Community Services Manager plans, develops, evaluates, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Community Services department. Responsible for the supervision of all departmental library staff, this manager creates schedules, fosters development, evaluates performance, and provides strong leadership. Typical areas of management responsibility include reference & information services, collection development, youth services, programming & outreach and grants. Oversees and facilitates website development and maintenance. Coordinates activities with other departments and outside agencies. Actively participates on library teams including the library administrative team to assist in developing and evaluating library services, monitoring budgets, strategic planning, grant development, formulating policies and procedures, and staffing decisions. Works with the Library Director to ensure continuity of services by assisting in the management of day-to-day library operations. Serves in lieu of the Director during absences and at the request of the Director.
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science from an A.L.A. accredited school, or equivalent
Minimum of three years management and supervisory experience in a public library setting
Required Qualifications:
Commitment to excellence in the provision of library service and broad knowledge of public library organization, administration, and services
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Exceptional organizational and project-management skills
Demonstrated capacity to lead, motivate, assess, and supervise people and processes
Ability to think analytically, solve problems, and make independent decisions based on good business practices and library philosophy
Evidence of good judgment, tact, and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and to interact diplomatically with all levels of staff and management throughout the organization
Ability to supervise staff using effective business models and motivational methods
Ability to create and perpetuate a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with desktop design tools including Canva and Microsoft Publisher
Experience with OCLC Wise integrated library system
Experience using online databases for research purposes
Ability to understand, speak, and write Spanish
All library positions require criminal background and child abuse clearances.
Hours: 40 hours per week including some evenings and weekends.
Compensation: Annual salary range $58,000-65,000 (dependent on education and experience); competitive benefits package.
Benefits: Medical, vision and dental for self (80% company paid) with premium copay. 5% additional medical
stipend after one year of employment. Generous PTO package (vacation, sick, and personal) beginning at 192
hours per year. Eleven paid holidays. 401K plan with 6% company contribution after one year of employment.
