Let Freedom Read: A Summer of Stars, Stripes and Stories

Get ready for a summer filled with adventure, imagination, and unforgettable stories! Our Summer Reading Program is underway, and there’s still plenty of time to join the fun!

What is Summer Reading?

From June 26 through August 8, readers of all ages are invited to participate in our Summer Reading Program, Stars, Stripes, and Stories. This year’s theme celebrates the stories that connect us—whether they’re found in history books, fantasy worlds, mysteries, memoirs, or your favorite audiobook.

How It Works

Youth (0–11) and Teens (12–18)

  • Earn one raffle ticket for every book you read or listen to.
  • Choose which prize drawing you’d like to enter.
  • Read as much as you’d like throughout the summer!

Adults (18+)

Adults are invited to participate in our Reading Road Trip Across the U.S.A. this summer! Travel through books set in different states and territories, track your journey on a reading map, and earn entries for every book you read.

Participants will have the chance to win gift cards to local businesses, and our top road-tripper will receive a grand prize at the end of the summer.

For complete rules and details about the challenge, be sure to check out our Adult Summer Reading blog post.

There is no limit to how much you can read. Every page, chapter, and book counts!

A Summer Packed with Programs

Looking for more ways to stay engaged this summer? We’ve planned programs for every age and interest, including:

  • Storytimes, playgroups, and Early Literacy Programs for our youngest readers
  • STEM Programs, Curiosity Labs, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Movie Matinees and Book Discussions
  • Special Guest Presenters and Family Events

Whether you enjoy creating, learning, exploring, or simply relaxing with a good book, there’s something for everyone at the library this summer.

Pick up a program calendar at the library or visit our online calendar to see everything we have planned.

Celebrating 60 Years of Stories

This year is especially meaningful as the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library celebrates 60 years of service to the Bristol community. For six decades, the library has connected generations of readers with books, ideas, and opportunities to learn and grow. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we’re grateful for everyone who has been part of our story and excited to create new memories together this summer.

Ready to Get Started?

There’s still plenty of time to join Summer Reading! Stop by the library to pick up your reading materials, and start earning entries for exciting prizes.

This summer, discover new worlds, revisit old favorites, and celebrate the power of stories with us. We can’t wait to read with you!
